Juuyo
Designer Lorenza Bozzoli was strongly influenced by the Far East, and more specifically the Japanese culture. This becomes obvious with the Juuyo Pendant Light, which is her effort to immortalise the history, heritage, culture and poetic essence of the Geisha. The shape of the ceramic shade is based on the wigs, worn by the Japanese entertainers. It is thought that the word Juuyo or paraphrase of it is an ode to the earliest female dancers in Japanese culture, between the 16th and 17th century.
The two version of the Juuyo available are a further tribute to Japanese art. One depicts a Koi Carp, which in Japanese culture is highly respected and considered the country's symbolic icon. The word Koi, in Japanese, is a homophone to another word which means 'affection' or 'love'. The other ceramic pendant designed by Bozzoli, bears another characteristic of the Japanese heritage: flower blossoms. Specifically, the Peach Flowers pendant depicts a small branch and flowers, glazed on the interior of the ceramic bowl. The Peach flowers, or 'momo', mean 'captivating personality'. Blossoms were and still are an important part of the Japanese culture, Bozzoli mixes that with Koi Carps that symbolise strength and all that incorporated into the legends of the Geisha. When the pendant is on, the interior glazed figures are highlighted and the lamp instantly creates a magical experience.
